Native American tribes used parthenium leaves in topical applications and made a tea to help with dysentery. European settlers used it for fever, cough and throat issues. Yarrow consumption can be traced to ancient Greece. During the Middle Ages, people flavored hops beverages with yarrow. A short time later, it became a dinner vegetable. Native Americans traditionally used goldenseal to support the mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive and urinary tracts. Herbalists of the early 20th century considered it a critical herb for stomach and intestinal issues. Capsicum was known to Columbus and other early explorers. Soon thereafter, this medicinal herb native to Central and South America began circulating around the world. Ayurvedics used it. Traditional Chinese Medicine adopted it. And practitioners across the globe took advantage of its unique stimulating properties.
